The 6 Chicest Hat Trends for Spring 2021

Normally, designers make use of the most influential millineries to commission hat designs for their fashion collections. However, the spring/ summer 2021 hat trends took a serious hit since many milliners closed their shops for the season, and materials were difficult to source.

Hats are tricky. No other item of clothing (not even jeans) requires as much searching. That said, there is a hat out there for everyone - even those who have an annual dalliance with a fedora at the first sign of spring, only to decide for the umpteenth time that it’s not for them. Success is largely down to trial and error.

Looking for a new way to take your outfit to a head-turning level it’s essential to try a standout hat. After looking at some of the latest spring hat trends, designers come across a few styles that just might take your favorite winter beanie’s place in the closet.

Throwing on a cap to complete your outfit is a passive way to transform an outfit, especially during a time of year where the weather can be rather unpredictable. Keeping a finger on the pulse of fashion trends, we looked to some of the best dressed street style stars to see the latest trends in headwear. From classic baseball caps and popular berets to the polarizing bucket hat, there’s a style that’ll work for any look you want. Check out how they’re styling these pieces below, and then shop for your favorite to update your own collection.

As the quintessential hat for spring 2021 the baseball hat will be perfect for wearing at any moment. With its character of comprehensive, you can wear it while you’re running errands or pair it with a more formal outfit for that ultimate style-setter look.

Hats figured heavily in the Nina Ricci lookbook for the season, helping to contribute to the highly-conceptual set of outline debonair photos. The spring hat silhouette presented was of an oversized bowler type, slightly strange headwear item that we think those with a quirky style will adore! The bowler hats on display came in solid white, blue, neon green, or lavender, but there was also one printed with a faded houndstooth pattern. The Celine collection was presented in an open-air stadium, so the models truly needed the collection’s spring hats to shield them from the sun. The hats, much like the clothes represented, were sporty casual with a luxury twist, including fabric baseball caps and soft bucket hats.

We saw bucket hats so often on the runways and in the lookbooks that we are sure this will be the favorite summer hat for the new year. From the ethnic-style bucket hats of Etro to the fun printed and straw options at Philosophy, there is the perfect bucket hat for everyone out there.

The Anna Sui collection also included buckets, making this one of the few definite spring 2021 hat trends. However, unlike the casual vibe at Celine, the Anna Sui buckets were feminine and cozy thanks to sweet floral prints or crocheted designs.

We didn’t see a lot of straw or traditional sunhats amongst the summer 2021 hat trends, but thankfully, Zimmermann still gave us an option for the hot, sunny season. The collection was all about flowy vacation clothes, which were easy to top with chic brimmed straw hats. Each hat was decorated along the edge of the brim with a brown stripe, which gave the hats a more structured touch, guaranteeing they’ll fit both in the city and on vacation.

The Jason Wu collection also gave us some wide-brims with a casual twist. Those soft bucket-sunhat hybrids were made of fabric and would probably be more suitable for quirky-casual street style.
